More of this please

I was in Chepstow, South Wales recently and passed the local sports centre whilst negotiating my way to the Wye Valley Path (walk it if you get the opportunity - very stunning). Outside the main entrance they've got this excellent free to use outdoor bicycle workshop. The first time I've seen one and such a brilliant idea for encouraging people to use and look after their cycles.

Tools to the left. Tyre pump in the centre and wash station
on the right.

Tools are secured on lengths of stainless
wire. I'm sure the lack of portability creates
some issues but it's the only way to stop the
dishonest walking away with them.

Bundle of bicycle tools. Most of what you
need to give your bike a quick fettle. Excuse
the slightly blurry smartphone photo.

  1. These turn up here and there in the U.S. Very nice idea (never seen a wash facility, though). Never see anyone actually use them. But it would give confidence to bikers who pass.

    1. Yes, I can't imagine it will get worn out soon. I guess though if it just helps a few folks keep cycling and gets even a couple of kids in to mechanics then it is money well spent.
