Ducati 48 Puma Moped, 48 Sports and 80 Sports Brochure 1962

Best known for sporting four strokes with their cams up top Ducati none-the-less produced a range of two-strokes from the fifties through to seventies. Here's a brochure dated November 1962 for the two stroke range that was imported to the UK.

Moto Piston Rally Santander 2014 pt 5

Wednesday and the last day of the three day Picos tour. We left Potes and rode in a roundabout way back to Santander. More fantastic quiet roads and amazing views. Strongly recommend this event, it's pretty much as good as classic biking gets.

Viewpoint early on in the day.

BMW parked up taking in the scenery.

There was a strong contingent over from the Aermacchi Club
of Holland. They brought with them some very tidy machinery,
this particular steed being one.

Harley Davidson badged Aermacchi.

This particular Aermacchi was a very effective noise generator.

Ariel Square Four swinging arm special. A
beautifully executed machine, I believe the frame
is from a Huntsmaster twin. It looked like a factory
job, the only slight giveaway is that when you
look closely the downtube has been slightly bent
forwards to accommodate the bulkier motor.

All parked up for a coffee stop.

Moto Piston Rally Santander 2014 pt 4

Tuesday and day two of the Picos Tour. Outstanding scenery and riding. 300km along mountain gorges and over high passes. Barely any traffic though plenty of cows on the road as well as the slippery hazards they leave behind them...

My Norton taking a breather. With hindsight I
wish I'd fitted some new tyres for the event to
replace the ancient Speedmasters...

Triumph Trident T150 over from the UK.

Dave Hollyman's very well travelled Royal
Enfield Mk 2 Interceptor from 1969.

Moto Guzzi Falcone over from Holland.

Also from Holland a lady Velocette rider.

Another panoramic stop.

Typical narrow road from pilot's eye view.

Local Norton featherbed single with hotted up
motor.

Moto Guzzi California atop a view point.

Another fine viewpoint.

Moto Piston Rally Santander 2014 pt 3

The first day of the Picos Tour through the Picos Europas. It took a while to leave the coastal urban sprawl but the effort was worth it passing first fabulous surf beaches and then winding up into the mountains for breathtaking scenery. The day finished up in Potes for an overnight stop with the now customary huge meal!

Norton Dominator 99ss at the seaside admiring the view.

A pre-unit Triumph passes by.

And then a Velocette Venom.

Cafe stop in the mountains with BMW R45 in
the foreground.

Classic bikes take over mountain village.

Gilera Saturno visiting from Holland.

New build BSA Gold Star special 'Nirvana'. Rob North frame,
Pearson 600cc motor and a lot of very trick parts.

Harley Panhead, the sole American bike representative on the
tour.

There's even a couple of Lambrettas come along.
Both ridden two up and keeping pace with the
bigger bikes pretty well.

Another Dutch visitor. This one a Laverda triple.

Moto Morini 500 twin.

Moto Piston Rally Santander 2014 pt 2

Sunday, I'd thought this was a free day but there was a run organised. A nice bonus. A cracking ride through the mountains, perfectly route marked, that ended up with a paella by the sea. Perfect.

Cafe racer Guzzi. I stood wondering where the battery was and
how the beast is started for quite a while before realising that
it is mounted down low under the swinging arm.

Another view of the Guzzi.

James on the Dommi enjoying a brief return to Brit twins as
a change from Italian iron.

Bultaco and Montesa road bikes at the coffee stop.

I've never seen one of these before. A Puch 75cc Cobra 6c.

Detail on a Ariel Square 4 swinging arm framed
special. The attention to detail is very fine. Take a
look at the drilled through engine plate studs.

Vincent Black Shadow on the road. One of two in the event.

Moto Piston Rally Santander 2014 pt 1

Arrived in to Santander for the MC Piston Rally in the early hours after a twelve hour drive down from Cherbourg. A free day so relaxed and took the Bantam for a spin around town. Other folks started to arrive late afternoon.
