Royal Enfield Model G Trials for sale

Mine for the last five odd years and featured in earlier posts, my Model G trials is up for sale. I got it from a chap who lived up in Redditch who had put it together in the eighties. He won a lot of events on it. I have won none! In fact I haven't really used it enough and with an imminent arrival in the shed it needs to find a new home...

When I got it the Model G sported girder forks, I wasn't too happy with the geometry of them and although previous owner had proven them to work by winning I found them difficult so have fitted a pair of Indian Enfield teleforks (better than the Redditch ones as they are double damped). I also fitted a more attractive tank and exhaust. The bike is a bitsa, the engine is a Model G with an ultra rare pre-war Bullet alloy top end, the gearbox is Clipper and the wheels Bullet. The frame is a Model G. Geometry is spot on for trialling but it is a cut and shut job and function over form, should you care to it could be tidied up. Engine tune is for stump pulling torque and it will mount most rises at tick over with the ignition slightly retarded. It is not road registered.

I also have a 1947 Model G project that comes with matching numbers V5c and a nice Eric Cheney modified trials rear triangle. It could be amalgamated with the up together trials machine to make something very nice, as indeed it had been my intention....

BSA 3.49hp ohv model

This gent has all the kit - leather riding coat, plus fours and plenty of brylcream. The bike too means business, a flying machine of the day, BSA's 350cc ohv sports model. I would guess it is from somewhere around 1925 and as far as I know the earlier models were simply called the '3.49hp ohv' model.

Jack Hearne cycle project

Here's the current cycle project taking shape in the workshop. I bought it as a bare frame with headset and cranks about three years ago. A spur of the moment ebay purchase. When it arrived I wasn't too sure what to do with it as the frame is way too small for me. It nearly got sold a couple of times but then I decided to build it up.

The frame is mid sixties with some nice fancy lug work and I've gone for a retro mix and match look with the components trying to use up as much as possible in the parts bin and not spending too much.

Stem used is an old SR that was lying around and the bars were bought new, they are Mungo moustache bars, seemingly the cheapest alloy moustaches around but they are nice quality and the shape is right. The levers are Weinmann, were hanging around and had to have new hoods on them to make them look nice.

Brooks bar tape always looks classy but is achingly expensive so I've just used a short grip length. It looks good and this way you can stretch a £45 set of tape across three cycles. As a tip though don't try and tap in the Brooks wooden plugs with a soft mallet, they will lose the fight quite badly!

The machine would orignally have had 27 inch wheels, I wanted 700c for ease but then the brake reach would be too long. A set of Sturmey Archer Steelite hub brakes with three speed gets over that problem and gives the cycle a nice fixie look without being a style over substance arse in the air head down fixie. The wheelset was the most expensive purchase at fifty quid from ebay, but it came with tyres so was pretty good value. Other folk's version of ready to fit is pretty different from mine though. The seller claimed the wheels had only done 25 miles. Could be true but it would be 'cos they are so flaming dangerous as whoever built them could only be bothered to get them vaguely true and drew the line at actually tightening any of the spokes up at all....

Seat stem came with the bike and saddle is a tasty new old stock Wrights W3N that was waiting for a suitable project.

Still a few jobs to do on it, I'm going to leave the paint original as I prefer it that way. Strangely I found a picture of it as a complete machine on a flickr album in the state it was just before I bought it. Not too sure why it was stripped of parts. Whoever did it did the cycle a favour in the end though as it went from rather a dull five speeder to something slightly different and, if I might say so, way classier. More pictures to come when it is completed.

Collection for sale

Have come across this fine connoisseur's collection for sale in Australia.

Amongst others there are several covetable ohv vintage Douglas machines, flat tank and cammy Nortons and a Coventry Eagle Flying 8 needing some attention. They are not being sold professionally but on behalf an elderly friend of the vendor. Prices are not given and one would likely need a deep pocket for machinery of this calibre. Any one of them would happily find space in my shed but sadly equipe Red Devil Motors is plum skint at the moment!

1928 Norton CS1 in action

1928 Norton CS1 at Goodwood

This picture is annotated on reverse, "R. A. Beecroft Goodwood 14th April 51 1928 Norton 490".

In 1951 it is as likely that the bike was still being used in anger at a time when clubmans racers were usually modified road machines or older model pukka racers. Proper made to race current machines were way beyond the means of most enthusiasts. Just possible though that it is a very early vintage race. If anyone can spread any light please get in touch.
