I was in Chepstow, South Wales recently and passed the local sports centre whilst negotiating my way to the Wye Valley Path (walk it if you get the opportunity - very stunning). Outside the main entrance they've got this excellent free to use outdoor bicycle workshop. The first time I've seen one and such a brilliant idea for encouraging people to use and look after their cycles.
Tools to the left. Tyre pump in the centre and wash station on the right. |
Tools are secured on lengths of stainless wire. I'm sure the lack of portability creates some issues but it's the only way to stop the dishonest walking away with them. |
Bundle of bicycle tools. Most of what you need to give your bike a quick fettle. Excuse the slightly blurry smartphone photo. |
These turn up here and there in the U.S. Very nice idea (never seen a wash facility, though). Never see anyone actually use them. But it would give confidence to bikers who pass.
ReplyDeleteYes, I can't imagine it will get worn out soon. I guess though if it just helps a few folks keep cycling and gets even a couple of kids in to mechanics then it is money well spent.
