I like to post up original content as much as possible but this little known gem of speed racing deserves wider circulation. The article is from a paperback US book called 'Motorcycles in Competition' from 1952 by Hank Weiand Bowman. I had never heard of the Plymouth Monster before but it is a magnificent machine and in many ways ahead of its time in concept. There are a couple of other references to the bike online which I've linked below: they quote the prize money as $30,000 for 300mph, in this article though it is quoted for 200mph. Still a massively high figure for 1935 but not as outlandishly unachievable as 300. There's not a lot of point in writing more as all I know is in the article. Read and enjoy...
